Bill Davidson Inducted Into Hall of Fame for Design Excellence

Bill Davidson of Davidson Communities

San Diego homebuilder Bill Davidson, more than a dozen times recognized locally for outstanding new home design, was inducted into the national Builder Magazine’s Hall of Fame for Design Excellence.

Davidson’s induction in the Wm. S. Marvin Hall of Fame for Design Excellence took place during the 31st annual Builder’s Choice Awards Gala in Washington DC. The honor recognizes Builder’s Choice-winning architects and builders who have a legacy of award-winning designs.

“Since he began building new homes in California more than 30 years ago, Bill Davidson has displayed a deep reverence for design, exceptional attention to detail, and a knack for understanding home buyers that time and again has elevated his neighborhoods to award-winning status,” said Denise Dersin, editor in chief of Builder magazine. “We are very pleased to be able to recognize Bill’s longstanding commitment to design.”

Called a “maverick” in a March 2005 San Diego Union-Tribune feature story, Davidson’s design and marketing innovations include: the first and now famous pink houses at Pointe Del Mar in the Del Mar Highlands and the early adoption of outdoor living and dining rooms at multiple projects in San Diego. Design Line Interiors Wins National Design

Awards

Design Line Interiors has won two prestigious Best in American Living Awards (BALA) for its work on Brookfield Homes’ Rockrose at The Foothills community in Carlsbad.

In praising Design Line’s work, the judges for the 27th annual BALA made special note of the “living wall” incorporated into the Residence 2 plan (Silver award winner) at Rockrose.  That design reflects Brookfield’s commitment to eco-savvy, “green” features at Rockrose, where each home extends 35 percent beyond the state of California’s energy-efficiency standards.

According to Design Line President Dawn Davidson, the living wall showcases a focus on sustainable elements at Rockrose as well as adding texture and visual interest to the interior space.  “The flexibility in terms of size, coupled with various plant combinations make ‘living walls’ a viable project for any home; they help save money on energy bills by limiting thermal fluctuation; improve room acoustics, and enhance one’s well being via improved indoor air quality,” Davidson said.

Design Line won both awards in the BALA category for single-family homes between 3,001 and 4,000 square feet. Rockrose was designed by Dahlin Group Architecture Planning, with land planning by Planning Systems of Carlsbad.

Honoring the best in custom and spec residential design, for attached, detached and multifamily homes, the BALA recognized 59 winners nationally in 28 different design categories.

BALA winners are honored annually for the creativity, innovation and imagination shown in redefining the residential building industry. (more…)
