On Thursday, February 16th, nearly 250 attendees packed the Del Mar Hilton for the first BIA general membership Breakfast of 2012.  This was the largest crowd BIA San Diego has drawn for a breakfast event in the last few years, and their was a collective sense of optimism about the direction of the industry.   The event subject, “Get more involved to get the most out of BIA,” clearly resonated with a crowd eager to get more business going by becoming more involved with BIA.

Guy Asaro, 2012 Building Industry Association (BIA) of San Diego County Chairman, delivers his Chairman’s Message at the 2012 Installation Celebration on January 21, 2012 at the Omni Hotel in downtown San Diego. Immediately preceding the speech Guy Asaro was formally installed into the office of 2012 BIA Chairman by his father Frank L. Asaro, a prominent San Diego estate attorney and, for over a decade, former BIA General Council.

Wow, what a wonderful celebration we are having this evening. Dad, thank you for your kind words.

Tonight’s event is all about vision….. and I had the privilege of growing up in a house with a man of great vision. Dad, you had the vision to be the first in our family to leave the tuna fishing community…to go to college and then law school… and the vision to become part of this industry. I hope, as I stand here today, that you can see what an inspiration you and mom have always been to me and to the rest of our family. (more…)

Believe it or not, there are builders who have profitably survived the current housing downturn and recession, and it’s not just the big, public builders that have been able to make deals work in today’s environment.  At this year’s Building Industry Show (“BIS”), being presented by the Building Industry Association of Southern California on Nov. 9-10 at the Long Beach Convention Center, a panel of local builders will share their experiences of survival and success over the recent months of this challenging period. The best in the building industry were recognized recently at the annual Icon Awards celebration.

The 2011 gala was held at The Prado’s Grand Ballroom at Balboa Park.  Master of ceremonies was Sam the Cooking Guy, the popular San Diego cooking show host, three-time cookbook author and 12-time Emmy winner.

“This year’s Icon was a wonderful evening of camaraderie, good food and lively entertainment at a very gracious San Diego venue,” said Sue Dowd, Icon Awards co-chair.  “Throughout the course of an exciting evening, we recognized more than a dozen outstanding individuals, projects and companies.”

Congratulations to the winners of 2011 Icon Awards, who have all distinguished themselves by working hard to deliver their best each day for the betterment of our industry. (more…)

2011 Summer Bash

BIASD’s biggest party of the season, the Summer Bash, lived up to its billing as a stylish, casual and fun networking event.
